Morphia
Morphia (morfia) beads, glass. Unusual, superb quality – produced through ‘folded-glass’ technique developed and made in Fustat (Old Cairo), early to mid-Islamic period (800-1000CE). Traded Trans- Sahara and Mediterranean, beads of this unusual technique made them status symbols as adornment and currency. While morphia beads are occasionally available, ones of this quality and condition are unique. These were excavated as a lot in a box, so they had not been exposed to the elements and I suspect were never traded.
